BAGGELEY William

Born c1861 in St Mary Redcliffe parish, the son of Thomas Baggeley (71C, 81C).

1871 Potter’s handler, 87 Oxford Street, Bedminster (13), living with his parents and siblings (71C).
1881 He was a pawnbroker’s assistant and still living with his parents (81C).

BAGGLEY Felix

Born c1834, the son of William Baggley (PPR).

1856 24 Dec. Potter of Taylor Street, St Philip’s parish, he married Mary Ann Webster (21) the daughter of Thomas Webster, potter (PPR).

BAGNELL (BIGNAL) Richard

Born c1842 in Bristol (61C).

1861 Labourer, 3 Temple Backs, Commercial Road, Temple parish (19), living with his wife Elizabeth (17), born in Bristol (61C).
1866 17 Feb. ‘Richard Bagnell was charged with deserting his child, a flaxen-haired, interesting looking boy, and leaving him chargeable to the parish of Temple. It was the man’s only child. He was living apart from his wife, and with another woman. He pleaded an excuse that he was not in full work. He was employed at the Bristol Pottery. The magistrates committed him to a month’s imprisonment’ (Bristol Mercury).

1818 He was one of the eight journeymen potters who were convicted of entering into an unlawful agreement for controlling and affecting Messrs. Wm. & Thos. Powell, and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment (BG).

1799 29 Oct. A reference to a common sewer in Temple parish, running ‘under a dwelling house in Tower Street now in the occupation of Thomas Baker, potter’ (Q).

BALL Percival Henry

1935 27 Mar. ‘Death in accordance with the medical evidence was the verdict recorded at an inquest held yesterday by the Bristol city coroner … on Percival Henry Ball (54) of Stock Road, Easton.  The widow said her husband came out of the army in May 1919 and began work at the Bristol Pottery the following July.  He had two machines to feed – one with flints and the other with stones.  After he had been there about 6 years he was home ill every year for a month.  He was seen by two doctors but he gradually got worse.  He was taken off the crushing machine work in September 1931, after being examined by the doctor at the Pottery.  He continued on light work until February 1933, since when he had not worked.  He died on March 23.  Dr A.L. Taylor, pathologist to the Bristol General Hospital said death was due to heart failure following fibrosis of the lungs due to silicosis’ (Western Daily Press).

1872 11 Feb. Noted as a potter when his son Thomas Duncalf Ball, a farmer of Trinity Street, married Clara Ann Thatcher (HTPR).
