APPLEFORD James

Born c1791, the son of Edward Appleford of Bristol, tobacco-cutter, deceased (51C, A).

1793 24 Nov. Probably the James Appleford baptised in St Philip’s, the son of Edward and Sarah Appleford (Ancestry website).
1806 3 Jun. Appenticed to Edward Patience with £10 from Edward Colston Q.E.H. (A, Ao).
1813 8 Apr. Married his wife, Charlotte (FM).
1816 14 Apr. Jacob Street, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1818 He was one of eight journeymen potters who was convicted of entering into an unlawful agreement for ‘controlling and affecting Messrs. Wm. & Thos. Powell, being persons carrying on the manufacture trade or business of a potter, in the conduct or management thereof, & severally sentenced to be imprisoned in the House of Correction for one month’.  The Bright goblet to commemorate this event was made on 4 Dec. 1818 (Bristol Museum Acc. No. 2225).  He was named as ‘Joseph Appleford’ in the newspaper report of the trial (BG).

The son of Mathew Arney of Christchurch, Monmouthshire, yeoman, deceased (A).

1712 27 Sep. He was apprenticed to Thomas I and Elizabeth Frank, with friends to find apparel (A, Ao, Ar).

ATKINS George

1869 4 Mar. He was a lad employed at the Bristol Pottery, who was caught in the premises at night sleeping over one of the ovens (Western Daily Press).

BADDER (BADDY) Thomas

1699 24 Apr. Thomas Badder married Elizabeth Coleman (TPR).
1706 24 Jul. He stood surety for the appearance of Ruth, the wife of John Rawles, a weaver, at the next Sessions (T).
1711 13 Nov. Listed as a petitioner for admittance to Temple Church School: ‘Thomas the son of Thomas Badder, at Mr Heskins his Garden, baptised Nov 1705 … the child can do little as to his learning’ (TCS).
1712 1 Jul. Listed as a petitioner for admittance to Temple Church School: ‘Thomas the son of Thomas Baddy born Nov 1705 he lives at Grumbalds Ash’ (TCS).
1723 22 May. Noted as a gallypotmaker when his son, Thomas, was apprenticed to William Perry, a clothworker (A, Ar).
1725 28 Apr. Noted as a gallypotmaker when his son, Thomas, was discharged from his apprenticeship to William Perry (T).
1730 2 May. ‘A child of Tho. Baddy, a journeyman potter in Temple Yarde was interred’ (Pountney 1920, 38).

Born c1832 in Longton, Staffordshire, the son of Robert Baggeley and the father of William Baggeley (JBPR, 61C, 71C, 81C).

1856 16 Jun. A potter of New Cut, Bedminster, he married Tabitha Sarah Watkins (22) (JBPR).
