1747 3 Jul. He became a free potter because of his marriage to Ann, daughter of William Watkins, hooper (F, G).

MILLS Henry

Born c1842 (PPR).

1865 3 Jun. Queen Street (23) the son of Thomas Mills, a haulier, he married Elizabeth Ann Taylor (20) of Queen Street, the daughter of Luke Taylor, a carpenter (PPR).

Born c1848 in Bristol (81C).

1881 Whitehouse Tavern, 30 Whitehouse Street, Bedminster (33), living with his wife Sarah J. (34), and children Thomas (12), M.A.E. (11), Caroline (4), all born in Bristol, James (3), born in Greenock, Scotland and Louisa (1), born in Tunstall, Staffordshire (81C).

MILSOM George

Born in 1819 in Temple parish, the son of John Milsom (TPR, BPR).

1842 9 Jan. Jacob Street, St Philip’s parish on the baptism of his daughter Susannah (aged 1 mnth).  Wife Sarah (PPR).
1843 2 Jul. Boot Lane, Bedminster, the son of John Milsom, potter, he married Sarah Norman of Boot Lane, the daughter of William Norman, a farrier (JBPR).
1851 China and glass mender, 6 Bear Lane, Temple parish (31), living with his wife Sarah (30), born in Bristol, and children Susannah (8) and Samuel (4), both born in Bristol (51C).
1861 It is assumed that both George and Sarah were dead as their two children were living with their father-in-law James Wilkins (61C).
1868 13 Jul. Noted as a potter when his daughter Susanna (27) of Charlotte Street married William Wilkins (JBPR).

MILSOM John

124 Temple Street Pottery
The Pottery was previously run by John Duffett I.

1821-36 John Milsom ran the 124 Temple Street Pottery.

John Milsom then moved his business to the Redcliff Street Pottery 3. The 124 Temple Street Pottery was then taken over by Edward and Francis Melsom.

1836-41 John Milsom ran the Redcliff Street Pottery 3.

He probably died in July 1841 and the Pottery then closed.

 

The son of Samuel Milsom of Bristol, victualler, and the father of George and Samuel John Milsom (A, BPR, TPR).

1791 3 Apr. Possibly the John Milsom baptised at St George, the son of Samuel and Christian Milsom (Ancestry website),
1805 25 Jan. He was apprenticed to James I and Hannah (or Margaret?) Alsop with £15 (A, Ao).
1807 12 May. He was discharged from his apprenticeship (A).
1812 14 Oct. He obtained his freedom (F).
1812 Bread Street, St Philip’s parish (P).
1818 ‘John Milsom’. He was one of eight journeymen potters who was convicted of entering into an unlawful agreement for ‘controlling and affecting Messrs. Wm. & Thos. Powell, being persons carrying on the manufacture trade or business of a potter, in the conduct or management thereof, & severally sentenced to be imprisoned in the House of Correction for one month’.  The Bright goblet to commemorate this event was made on 4 Dec. 1818 (Bristol Museum Acc. No. 2225).

1833 John ‘Melsom’ paid £1.15s.0d duty on his manufacture of stone bottles (from the ‘Fifth Report of the Commissioners of Inquiry into the  Management and Collection of the Excise Revenue [on] Stone Bottles and Sweets, London, 1834’).
1836-40 John Milsom, 56 Redcliff Street, stone ware potter and patent water pipe manufacturer (MD).
1837 ‘Thomas Milsom’, possibly a mistake for John Milsom, Temple Street, Temple parish (P).
1839 1 Aug. Noted as a potter when his son Samuel John Milsom, a potter, of King Street married Sophia Fowler (JBPR).
1841 25 Jul. Probably the John Milsom who was buried at Temple church (TPR).
1843 Noted as a potter when his daughter Matilda Christiana Milsom married John Caple, a wheelwright (MLPBT).
1843 5 Jun. Noted as a potter when his daughter Emma, a tailoress of Rosemary Street, married John Hall (PaPR).
1843 2 Jul. Noted as a potter when his son George Milsom, a potter, of Boot Lane, Bedminster, married Sarah Norman (JBPR).
1852 Noted as a potter when his son John Milsom (24) a labourer of Boot Lane, Bedminster, married Ann Reed (JBPR).

1839 1 Aug. King Street, the son of John Milsom, he married Sophia Fowler of King Street, the daughter of Richard Fowler, a brewer (JBPR).

Born in 1848 in St Philip’s parish, the son of Samuel John Milsom (PPR).

1865 28 Apr. William Edward Milsom son of Samuel Milsom of the city of Bristol, stoneware potter, apprenticed to W.A.F. Powell of the said city, stoneware manufacturer for 7 years.  No premium.  Friends to find everything.  Wages 4s, 5s, 7s and ½ earnings (Ao).

1747 14 Sep. He was apprenticed to Thomas II and Bathsheba Cantle with £10, the gift of Edward Colston, deceased (A, Ao, Ar).

MIRCHENS John

Born c1854 in Temple parish (81C).

1881 Boarding at Foresters Arms, Great Avon Street, Temple parish (27) (81C).

MITCHELL Arthur

The son of John Mitchell of London, sailor, deceased (A).

1717 18 Jul. He was apprenticed to Malachi and Sarah Barton (A, Ao, Ar).
1726 23 Aug. He became a free china man (F, G).

MITCHELL Richard

Born c1817 (Ao).

1831 7 Oct. He was apprenticed to J.D. Pountney, aged 14 years (Ao).
1841 28 Sep. Church Street, Temple parish, the son of John Mitchell, a mariner, he married Charlotte Trevelyan the daughter of James Trevelyan, a labourer (MLPBT).
1851 Charlotte Mitchell, potter’s wife, husband out of work, works at the Pottery, 23 Avon Street, Temple parish (30), born in Temple parish, living with her children John Henry (7) born in Spain, British subject, and Charlotte (3) born in Temple parish.  No mention of Richard Mitchell (51C).
