1769 6 Nov. He was apprenticed to William I and Mary Maynard, with £10 from Edward Colston, deceased (A, Ao).
1780 2 Sep. He became a free potter (F, G).
1784 Potter, St Philip and Jacob out parish (P).
1786/7 Margaret, wife of William Lawrence of Milk Street, received £1 from Ann Thurston’s Charity for the Relief of Poor Women in Child Bed (BRO 04191).
1790/1 Margaret, wife of William Lawrence of Ellbroad Street, potter, received £1 from Ann Thurston’s Charity for the Relief of Poor Women in Child Bed (BRO 04191).
1792 7 Jul. ‘we the Mayor Burgesses and Commonalty of the City of Bristol do owe and are justly indebted unto William Lawrence of the same City Potter and William Rice of the same City Painter (Stewards to a certain Club or Society of Persons in the Said City called the Bristol Union Society for the Support of the Members thereof in the time of Sickness) … in the Sum of Two hundred pounds …’ (BRO 04106(2)).

1827 19 Aug. He was baptised, the son of William and Mary Laws (JaPR).
1851 19 Temple Street, Temple parish (24), living with his mother Mary Laws, a snuffmaker (51C).
1851 4 Jun. Thomas Street, St Thomas’s parish, the son of William Laws, potter, he married Eliza Tucker of Thomas Street, the daughter of James Tucker, a labourer (ThPR).

 

LAWS William

The father of Mathew Laws (JaPR).

1827 19 Aug. Temple parish on the baptism of his son, Mathew.  Wife Mary (JaPR).
1849 25 Dec. Noted as a potter when his daughter Elizabeth (27) of Browns Row, Bedminster, married Peter Nicklin (JBPR).
1851 4 Jun.  Noted as a potter when his son Mathew of Thomas Street, St Thomas’s parish married Eliza Tucker (ThPR).

1881 Potter’s labourer, 6 Bethel Place, Bedminster (58), living with his wife Susannah (48) and children, including Frank (7), born in Bristol (81C).
1891 Henry’s son, Frank, was living with his married sister Catherine Whittingham, suggesting that his parents were dead (91C).

1865 1 Jun. ‘Yesterday evening. William Leech, aged 14 years, residing at 3 Little Tower Street, and working at Temple Gate Pottery, had his left hand drawn into a chaff cutting machine, and before it could be extricated it was very much bruised and lacerated. He was taken to the General Hospital and detained’ (Bristol Times & Mirror).
