1871 Potter, 3 Berkeley Place, St Philip’s parish (13), living with his mother Harriet, a widow and annuitant, and siblings (71C).

GRIFFITHS Elizabeth

Born c1841 (HTPR).

1863 6 Jul. Pennywell Road, St Philip’s parish, the daughter of William Griffiths, a coppersmith, she married Alfred Cook (23) a blacksmith (HTPR).

1872 8 Apr. 10 Alfred Street, St Philip’s parish (21), the son of Samuel Griffiths, potter, he married Ann McCarthy (21) of 10 Alfred Street, the daughter of James McCarthy, a nailmaker (EPR).

1901 He is not recorded in the census but his children were living with their uncle and aunt, Edwin and Louisa Ellis, and it was probably his wife Ann, a widow, who was in the Bristol Workhouse at Stapleton (52) (01C).

GRIFFITHS John I

1756 A chinamaker he stood surety of £5 for Edward Davis to keep an alehouse in St Nicholas parish (AKL).
1759 30 Jul. An advertisement in ‘Aris’s Birmingham Gazette’: ‘Wanted a sober careful Man, who is well qualified as a Thrower in the Mottled and Cloudy Earthen Ware.  If he is inclined to settle not a great way from Bristol, will meet with great encouragement by applying to John Griffiths on the Back in Bristol’ (Nightingale 1881, lxxxvi).
1768 26 Jul. A chinaman he stood surety of £10 for the appearance of Richard Bailey, housecarpenter, at the Tolzey Court (BRO Wooden Box 1768 Bundle 11 No. 1(3)).

1720 23 Mar. He was apprenticed to Thomas I and Elizabeth Frank.  Friends to find apparel (A, Ao, Ar).

GRIFFITHS (GRIFFIN) Peter

The son of Peter Griffiths of Bristol, shipwright, deceased, and the father of Joseph Griffiths (A).

1698 11 Jul. He was apprenticed to Thomas I and Hester Frank (A, AR).
1707 28 Apr. He became a free gallypotmaker (F, G).
1720 23 Mar. Described as a gallypotmaker when his son, Joseph, was apprenticed to Thomas Frank I (A, Ao, Ar).
1736 6 May. ‘William Pytts agt. Peter Griffins at Christophers pothouse in Lime Kiln Lane’ (C).  See also Charles Christopher.
1736 2 Jul. ‘Robert Porter agt. Peter Griffiths at Mr. Tompsons in Lime Kiln Lane’ (C).
1737 28 Apr. ‘Robert Porter agt. Peter Griffiths at the Potthouse in Lime Kiln Lane.  Thursday the 15th 1737 Pl. proved his debt to be 7s.9d for cloaths, ordered it be paid with costs’ (C).

1874 24 May. Noted as a potter when his daughter Sarah Ann Griffiths (21) of Jacob Street, St Philip’s parish married Thomas Batten (PPR).
