1867 | 27 Apr. ‘James Gregory, a married man, and an employee at Mr Ellis’s pottery, was charged with indecent exposure and assaulting a respectable young woman, named Agnes Mansfield. The complainant, who lives in Redcross Street, stated that at about ten o’clock on Tuesday night she was in Redcross Street, near the Rose and Crown public house, when she perceived the prisoner standing on the pavement with his clothes disarranged. He caught her round the waist and dragged her towards him. She succeeded in getting away, and he then ran off. In his defence, the accused admitted catching hold of the complainant, but he denied any indecent intent. Fines 40s and costs, or in default a month’s imprisonment’ (Bristol Mercury). |
