GOULDING Henry

Born c1854 in Bristol, possibly the brother of Cornelius Andrew Goulding (81C).

1874 25 Dec. Redcross Street, St Philip’s parish (21), the son of Charles Goulding, a labourer, he married Elizabeth Taylor (19), the daughter of William Taylor, a smith (PPR).
1881 9 Melsom Buildings, Temple parish (27), living with his wife Elizabeth (24) a staymaker, born in Bristol, and son William (3), born in Bristol (81C).
1891 Widower, Merricks Cottage, St Mary Redcliffe parish (37), living with his children Elizabeth (7) and Charles (4), both born in Bristol (91C).
1901 He may have died as he is not recorded in the census and his children were living with their grandparents (01C).

 

GOULDING Richard

1757 12 May. The Rev. Joseph Stokes insured properties in Bristol including a ‘tenement behind the Old Crown Alehouse in the Tenure of Richard Goulding, Potter …’ (Adams 1973, 97).

GRACE Edward Henry

Born c1885 in Bristol (11C).

1911 General labourer, stoneware pottery, 140 Whitehouse Lane, Bedminster (26), living with his wife Rosina (22) and Alice (under 3 mths), both born in Bristol (11C).

GRACE John I

The father of John Grace III and the brother-in-law of John Weaver.

1709 15 Oct. A potter of Temple parish he was granted a licence to marry Mary Weaver of the same parish, at Temple.  Bondsman: Edward Ward II, potter (M).  Mary Weaver was the sister of the potter, John Weaver (PRO Prob RG11/667).
1733 18 Jun. Described as a potter when his son, John III, was apprenticed to John Weaver, potter (A, Ao, Ar).
1734 13 Sep. He was living in a house in St Augustine-the-Less parish owned by John Weaver, potter (PRO Prob RG11/667).
1739 8 May. Described as a potter when his son, Henry, was apprenticed to John Mason, turner (A, Ar).
1742 8 Jan. A potter of Temple parish he was bondsman to a licence granted to William Cory, glazier (M)
1742 16 Mar. Described as a potter when his son, John Weaver Grace, was apprenticed to William Cory, glazier (A).

 

GRACE John II

The son of Stephen Grace of Bristol, potter (A).

1731 11 Feb. He was apprenticed to John and Hester Weaver. Friends to find apparel (A, Ao, Ar).
1736 8 Jan. His apprenticeship was transferred to Charles and Mary Christopher (A).

GRACE John III

The son of John Grace I (A).

1733 18 Jun. He was apprenticed to John and Hester Weaver.  Friends to find apparel (A, Ao, Ar).
1740 10 Nov. A potter of Bristol he was bondsman to a licence granted to Isaac Littlewood, gentleman (M).
1750 1 Nov. Possibly the John Grace ‘Pot-Turner in the Glasgow Pot-House, aged 29 years or thereby’ who gave evidence in the Delftfield Pottery Case. It was stated in evidence that sometime before, he had been working at Joseph Fortee’s Pottery at Lambeth and had been working as a pot-turner for 17 years (Scottish Pottery Society 81/76).

 

GRACE Stephen

He was the father of John Grace II (A).

1731 11 Feb. Described as a potter of Bristol when his son, John II, was apprenticed to John and Hester Weaver (A, Ao, Ar).

 

GRACE Thomas

1713 13 Aug. He became a free potter because of his marriage to Susannah, the daughter of Samuel Stote, weaver (F).
1722 Potter, Temple parish (P).

Born c1882 in Longton, Staffordshire (11C).

Born c1823 in Bristol, the husband of Mary Grainger (61C, 91C).

1851 Pottery handler, 6 Commercial Road, Temple Backs, Temple parish (27) (51C).
1855 15 Apr. Tower Hill, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1856 & 59 Castle Street, Castle Precincts (PPR).
1861 Potter handler, Castle Street, Castle Precincts (38), living with his wife Mary (32) a warehouse woman, born in Bristol, and children (61C).
1871 14 Viacoff Parade, St Peter’s parish (48), living with his wife Mary (42) and children (71C).

Born c1825 in Bristol, the son-in-law of William Bath (51C).

1846 18 Feb. Harris’s Yard, Temple parish, the son of John Grainger, labourer, he married Ann Bath of Gough’s Court, the daughter of William Bath, potter (TPR).
1847 & 51 Temple parish (TPR).
1851 Potter – glass packer, 20 Ash Lodge, Temple parish (26), living with his wife Ann (25) born in Sneed Green, Staffordshire, and son, George (4) (51C).

GRANT James

The son of James Grant, late of Bristol, yeoman, deceased (A).

1733 8 Sep. He was apprenticed to John and Hester Weaver. £10 paid with the apprentice. Friends to find apparel (A, Ao, Ar).
1736 8 Jan. His apprenticeship was transferred to Charles and Mary Christopher (A).
1739 19 Apr. His apprenticeship was transferred to Josiah and Elizabeth Bundy (A).

GRANT Richard

1736 10 Feb. Richard Grant, potter, Bedminster, buried (RB).

GRAVED William

1791 11 Jun. Described as a potter of Bristol; he was the proposed purchaser of the lease of two houses on the Quay in the possession of Thomas Powles, accountant and Job Williams.  The Corporation eventually refused to sell him the properties (PBk).

1726 15 Aug. A potmaker of Bristol, he stood surety of £20 for Stephen Lewis (T).
