BOWDEN Susan II

Born in 1850 in St Philip’s parish, the daughter of Charles Bowden and the sister of Emma and Richard Bowden (PPR, 71C).

1871 Potter lathe treader, 8 Prospect Place, St Philip’s parish (21), living with her parents and siblings (71C).

BOWDEN William

Born c1815 in Sicily, British subject, probably the brother of John Bowden (51C, Ao).

The son of Thomas Bowden, a soldier in the 62nd Regiment, who was stationed in Sicily at the time of William Bowden’s birth.  He left the army and lived in Oxford Street, St Philip’s Marsh (information from Bob Wright).

1839 8 Dec. Dings, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1841 Police Constable, Lamb Court, St Augustine the Less parish (25), living with his wife Jane (25) and children Thomas (4) and Margaret (2) (41C).
1851 Potter, policeman, 1 Lamb Court, St Augustine’s parish (36), living with his wife Jane (38), born in Bristol, and children (51C).
1861 Policeman, 1 Lamb Court, St Augustine the Less parish (45), living with his wife Jane and children (61C).

BOWEN Henry

1741 2 May. He petitioned for freedom (CCP).
1741 18 Jun. He became a free potter by vote of the Common Council and payment of £15.15s.0d (F, G, CCP).
1754 Potter, Christchurch parish (P).

 

BOWEN John

The son of John Bowen of Bristol, watchmaker (A).

1734 13 Apr. He was apprenticed to John and Hester Weaver.  Friends to find apparel (A, Ao, Ar).
1736 8 Jan. His apprenticeship was transferred to Charles and Mary Christopher (A).
1738 27 Apr. A John Bowen married Mary Berrow (RPR).  It has been suggested that this was John Bowen, the potter (Ray 1968, 66) but no occupation is given in the marriage register.
1739 19 April. His apprenticeship was transferred to Josiah and Elizabeth Bundy (A).

Born c1832 in Whitehaven Cumbria, the son of James Bowers and husband of Sarah Bowers (61C, PPR).

1859 30 May. Bread Street, St Philip’s parish (28), the son of James Bowers, potter, he married Sarah Davis (27) (PPR).
1861 7 Dec. Bread Street, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1861 4 Ash Lodge, Temple parish (29), living with his wife Sarah, transferer (61C).
1865 24 Dec. George Street, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1871 2 Colston Place, Temple parish, living with his wife Sarah, potter transferer, and children (71C).

The father of Jacob Bowers (PPR).

1859 30 May.  Noted as a potter when his son Jacob Bowers married Sarah Davis (PPR).

Born c1832 in Bristol, the wife of Jacob Bowers (PPR).

1861 Described as a ‘transferer’ she was living with her husband, Jacob Bowers, at 4 Ash Lodge, Temple parish (61C).
1871 Potter transferer, living with her husband at 2 Colston Place, Temple parish (71C).

Born c1859 in Temple parish, Bristol, the brother-in-law of John Parker (81C).

1881 7 Little Avon Street, Temple parish (22) (81C).
1901 29 Feeder Road, St Silas (40) (01C).
1911 Pottery labourer, lodging at Chapel Road, St Marks, Easton (53) (11C).

Born c1826 in Temple parish, Bristol (51C).

1851 Potter painter, 4 Harris’s Yard, Temple parish (25), living with her husband John Bowley, a millwright (51C).

BOWMAN Caroline

Born c1868 in St Philip’s parish (91C).

1891 30 Grafton Street, St Philip’s parish (23), living with her husband George, warehouseman, and daughter Louisa (2) (91C).

BOWYER Hannah

Born c1858 in Hackney, Middlesex, the daughter of Simeon Bowyer (71C).
