1870 3 Mar. ‘Died on 24 Feb at Price’s Pottery, Thomas Street, Sarah Jane Thorne, youngest daughter of Thomas Thorne, aged two years and ten months’ (Western Daily Press).
1870 17 Dec. ‘Died December 11 at Price’s Pottery, Thomas Street, Thomas Joseph, the eldest son of Mr Thomas Thorne, in his ninth year’ (Bristol Mercury).
1871 13 Feb. He was noted as the manager of Price’s Pottery (Western Daily Press).

THORNE Thomas Joseph

Born c1861, the son of Thomas Thorne (Bristol Mercury).

1870 17 Dec. He died on 11 December at Price’s Pottery, aged 9 years, the eldest son of Thomas Thorne (Bristol Mercury).

THRALL (or THRAWL) Joseph

The son of John Thrall of Bristol, tiler and plasterer (A).

1704 16 Nov. He was apprenticed to Mary Orchard to be educated in the art of a potmaker (A, Ar).
1712 3 Dec. He became a free potmaker (F, G).
1717 6 Mar. Ann Thrall buried (RPR).
1717 20 Jul. ‘William Thrall, aged 2 months’ buried (RPR).
1718 21 Nov. ‘Joseph Thrall, aged 18 months’ buried (RPR).
1722 Potter, St Mary Redcliffe parish (P).
1727 12 Feb. Martha, daughter of Joseph Thrall, potter, baptised (RPR).
1727 1 May. A ‘Joseph Throle of the City of Bristol, potter’ was one of the lives on a lease granted to William Whidler for six and a half acres of arable land in either Pensford, Publow or Woollard (SRO DD/PO/57 – information from Marek Lewcun).
1727 26 May and 14 Oct. A potter of St Mary Redcliffe parish, he was bondsman to licences granted to Joseph Taylor I, potter, and Abraham Thrall, tiler (M).
1729 3 Jun. ‘Joseph Thrawl agt. John Smith, potter on Redcliff Hill. Thursday June 3 1729 Pltf proved Deft. indebted to him 2s.2½d for Geneva and Tobacco sold Order’d it be pd with costs in a month’ (C).
1730 19 Mar. ‘Joseph Thrall agt Aaron Cantle, potter near St Phillips Churchyard’ (C).
1730 4 Oct. ‘Mary Thrall, aged 15 years’ buried (RPR).
1733 16 Aug. ‘Ended, Joseph Thrall agt John Robins at Mr Frank’s pothouse Redcliff Backs’ (C).  See also Thomas Frank I and John Robins.
1735 30 Jan. His son, Thomas, apprenticed to Henry Pool, wheelwright (A, Ar).
1739-56 He stood sureties of £5 each for eleven people to keep alehouses in St Mary Redcliffe, Temple, St James’s and St Mary le Port parishes (AKL).
1743 6 Aug. He petitioned for the post of Exchange Keeper, but was unsuccessful (CCP).
1753 17 Jun and 23 Aug. A potter of St Philip and Jacob parish, he was bondsman to licences granted to Benjamin Quarman, potter, and William Matchin, potter (M).

THYNNE Geoffrey Arthur Carlisle

Born c1880 in Seend, Wiltshire (01C).

1901 Articled clerk to earthenware manufacturer, boarding at 3 Canynge Square, Clifton (20) (01C).
1905 26 Dec. He was recorded as an employee of Pountney and Co. Ltd. (WEstern Daily Press).
1909 21 Oct. The son of Arthur Barugh Thynne, the vicar of Seend, he married Constance Isabel Harley (All Saints, Clifton PR, 81C).
1909 In 1909, with Mr H.S. Thynne, his brother, he formed a tile company in Hereford and built up an extensive business both at home and abroad. It lasted until 1959 when work ceased except for the production of tiled fireplaces and the retail supply of tiles (Herefordshire Through Time website).
1911 Tile manufacturer, employer, Rushford, College Road, Holmer, Hereford (30), living with his wife Constance (27), born in Clifton, and Florence Smart (19), cook, and Elizabeth Cooper (16), parlour maid (11C).
1963 He died in Hereford (Ancestry website).

TILEY Arthur James

Born c1870 in St Philip’s parish, the father of Florence Kate Tiley (91C, 11C).

1891 Potter, hollow ware presser, 4 Barton Street, St George (21), living with his wife Elizabeth S. (19), boot machinist, born in St Philip’s parish (91C).
1901 Potter and carter, 25 Addison Road, Bedminster (30), living with his wife Elizabeth (28) and children Florence (8), born in St Lukes and Olive (3), born in Totterdown (01C).
1911 Potter carter, 7 Midland Terrace, Fishponds (42), living with his wife Elizabeth Selina (40) and children including Lilly Gale (4), adopted, born in Fishponds (11C).
1928 21 Aug. He died in Bristol, aged 59. His will shows he was living at 19 Ridgeway Parade, Eastville and his effects were valued at £100 (Ancestry website).

1891 General labourer, 15 Chapel Street, St Philip’s parish (33), living with his wife Laura (31), born in West Littleton, Gloucestershire, and daughter Louisa (3), born in St Philip’s parish (91C). The 1901 and 1911 census returns show he was working as a general labourer or malster.  He died in 1912 (Ancestry website).

The daughter of Ephraim Tompkinson and wife of George Pass (JaPR).

1839 17 Jun. A potter of Arcade, St James’s parish, the daughter of Ephraim Tompkinson, a potter, she married George Pass, a potter, of Arcade, the son of George Pass, a greengrocer (JaPR).
