RICH Samuel

Born c1819 in St Philip’s parish, the son of William Rich I and the father of John Rich (41C, 51C).

RICH William I

William Rich is first recorded in the directories as a drain pipe and fire brick maker on his own account in 1850, although he could have been operating the Pottery at an earlier date.

c1850-72 William Rich I ran the St Philip’s Pottery 9.

The Pottery was then taken over by his grandson, John Rich.

 

Born c1793 in St Philip’s parish, the father of William Rich II and Samuel Rich, and the grandfather of John Rich (41C, 61C).

1792 25 Dec. Possibly the William Rich, son of George and Rachel Rich, baptised (PPR).
1813 27 Jun. Possibly the William Rich who married Charlotte Moore at St George (Ancestry website).

1872 4 Jun. William Plaster Rich, a drain pipe manufacturer of Avon Cottages, Albert Road, died. His will was proved on 15 July by his executors, Frederick Snary of 26 Castle Street, photographer, and John Boon, of 79 Redcliffe Street, ironmonger. Personal effects were valued at under £300 (PRO National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966).

1854 1 Jan. Potter of Spring Street, Bedminster (31), the son of William Rich, a potter, he married Elizabeth Gore (26), a widow, of Spring Street (JBPR).
1861 Stoneware potter, Westbury-on-Trym (38), living with his wife Elizabeth (33), born in Yeovil, Somerset (61C).

Born c1822 (Ao).

1838 10 Sep. He was apprenticed to Francis Cole, aged 16 years (Ao).
1841 Apprentice, Ash Lodge, Temple parish (18) (41C).

 

RICHARDS William I

The son of John Richards of St Philip and Jacob parish, brazier, deceased (A).

1807 13 Feb. He was apprenticed to Samuel Sheppard (A, Ao).
1823 11 May. Dings, St Philip’s parish on the baptism of his daughter Mary Ann (aged 4 years).  Wife Eleanor (PPR).

1845 13 Jan. Noted as a potter when his son Alfred of Wellington Street married Caroline Seaman (JBPR).
1849 20 Feb. Noted as a potter when his daughter Emily Priscilla of Somerset Street married John Weavin Grubb (JBPR).
1858 26 Aug. Noted as a potter when his son William, a potter of Easton Road, married Emma Brooks (HTPR).
1866 2 Aug. Noted as a potter when his daughter Sarah Ann (38) of Somerset Street married John Wright (JBPR).

RICHMOND John

The son of William Richmond of Bristol, labourer (A).

1806 9 Jun. He was apprenticed to Edward Patience (A, Ao).
1818 He was one of eight journeymen potters who was convicted of entering into an unlawful agreement for ‘controlling and affecting Messrs. Wm. & Thos. Powell, being persons carrying on the manufacture trade or business of a potter, in the conduct or management thereof, & severally sentenced to be imprisoned in the House of Correction for one month’.  The Bright goblet to commemorate this event was made on 4 Dec. 1818 (Bristol Museum Acc. No. 2225). He was employed by W. & T. Powell.

 

RICHMOND Langston

The husband of Mary Langston and father of Edwin Joseph Langston (PPR).

1837 11 Oct. Noted as a Bristol potter, deceased, when his son Edwin was apprenticed to J.D. Pountney (A, Ao).

Born c1801 in Bristol (or Cornwall; 51C), the wife of Langston Richmond and the mother of Edwin Joseph Richmond (A, PPR, 41C).

1851 Hollow ware presser at pottery, 23 Tower Street, Temple parish (56), born in Cornwall, living with her daughter Mary Ann (22) (51C).

 

RICHMOND William

Born c1830 in Scotland, the son of George Richmond and the brother of Alfred Richmond (51C, HTPR).

1841 No occupation, Temple Backs, Temple parish (10), living with his father William and siblings including Alfred, potter (41C).
1846 31 Aug. He was apprenticed to J.D. Pountney, aged 16 years, to the learn the art of a presser (Ao).
1851 Potter presser, 1 Somerset Street, Bedminster (20) (51C).
1858 26 Aug. Easton Road, the son of George Richmond, a potter, he married Emma Brooks, of Easton Road, the daughter of James Brooks, a boot and shoe maker (HTPR).
1861 Potter mechanic, 7 Sussex Place, Poplar, London (30), living with his wife Emma (25), born in Bristol, and daughter Elizabeth (1), born in Bristol (61C).
1865 Catalogue of the Bristol, West of England, Gloucestershire and South Wales Industrial Exhibition.

Richmond, Wm. Potter at Messrs White’s Pottery – 8 Blenheim Street, Baptist Mills – a large and small jug, Breakfast Service complete.  Made and designed by exhibitor.
Richmond was also on the management committee.
