MARGERUM James

See the Potteries List section for the Redcliff Back Pottery 1.

1705-06 James Margerum had converted William Clark’s glasshouse into a Pottery.  However, it seems likely that the Pottery was operated by Thomas Frank I, as he was exporting earthenware from at least 1706.

By 1707 the records show that the Pottery had been taken over by ‘John Frank’, although this may be a mistake for Thomas Frank I.

Possibly the ‘James Margarinn’ who was apprenticed to John Campion of London, potter, on 13 October 1681 (Edwards 1974, 84). If so, then he may have been the James Margerum, born 9 Apr 1668, baptised 8 May 1668, the son of John and Hannah Margerum of St Marylebone, Westminster, Middlesex (Ancestry website).
