HOLBROOK (HOLDBROOK) Samuel I

Born c1846 in St Philip’s parish, the brother of Joseph Holbrook, the husband of Elizabeth Holbrook, the father of William Holbrook II and the step-father of Charles White and Pridence Poole (PPR, 81C, 91C, 01C, 11C).

1870 29 Dec. William Street, St Philip’s parish (24) the son of Aaron Holbrook, a shoemaker, he married Elizabeth White (28) widow of William Street, the daughter of Robert Smalldridge, a labourer (PPR).
1871 Potter, William Street, St Philip’s parish (26), living with his wife Elizabeth (29), born in St Philip’s parish, and children (71C).
1875 21 Nov. St Philip’s Marsh (PPR).
1881 Potter kilnman, 12 Atlas Street, St Philip’s parish (37), living with his wife Elizabeth (39), born in Bristol, and children and step-children (81C).

Born c1879 in St Philip’s parish, the son of Samuel Holbrook I (PPR, 01C).

HOLDER Mark

1861 31 Jul. He was employed at a pottery when he was charged with trespassing on the premises of the Great Western Railway Company. He was cautioned and discharged (Western Daily Press).

HOLE John

Born c1828 in Temple parish (51C).

1849 23 Dec. 44 Temple Street, Temple parish, the son of John Hole, accountant, he married Jane Walkins of Crown, Church Street, the daughter of James Walkins, an iron moulder (TPR).
1851 Potter’s labourer, 24 Avon Street, Temple parish (23), living with his wife Jane (24) born in Tintern, Monmouthshire (51C).
1861 Gloster Lane, St Philip’s parish (33), living with his wife Jane (34) and child Mary Jane (15), born in Tintern Abbey, Monmouthshire (61C).
1862 15 Sep. John Hole of the Rose and Crown, Broad Plain, applied to renew his license. He had been in business for 14 or 16 months, and had been in the employ of the Bristol Pottery Company for many years. His license was not renewed as it was alleged that he kept a disorderly house frequented by prostitutes and their clients (Western Daily Press).
1871 Licensed victualler, The Ship, 9 Avon Street, Temple parish (43), living with his wife Jane (44) (71C).
1881 Potter, Gardener’s Arms, Fishponds Road (52). Described as married but his wife is not recorded in the census (81C).
1891 Potter, widower, Salutation Beer House, Charles Place, Clifton (63), living with his sister Mary Ann Hole (67), publican (91C).

1846 19 Jul. Noted as a potter when his daughter Jane of Regent Street, Bedminster married James Plummer (JBPR).

HOLLISTER Stephen Alfred

See the Potteries List section for the Barton Hill Pottery.

The Pottery had been run by Alfred Niblett and the Pottery was still one of Niblett’s assets when he was declared bankrupt in 1888. It seems likely that Stephen Alfred Hollister was running the Pottery, probably on Niblett’s behalf, for only a short period of time.

1886-88 Stephen Alfred Hollister ran the Barton Hill Pottery.

There Pottery was sold in 1889.

HOLLY Alfred

1891 23 Jun. Alfred Holly, who was a lad employed at Price’s Pottery and lived in Brandon Buildings, was charged with wounding another boy (Western Daily Press).

HOLMYARD Samuel

1819 9 Jul. Noted as a potter ‘late of Bristol’ when his son Samuel, was apprenticed to Thomas Williams, a tailor (A).

HOLT Alfred George

Born c1852 (PPR).

1883 5 Sep. 7 Jacob Street, St Philip’s parish (31) the son of Charles Holt (deceased) labourer, he married Hannah Tarr (35) of & Jacob Street, the daughter of John Tarr, a shoemaker (PPR).

HOLT William

1897 16 Jan. Noted as a potter when his son Richard (26) of Dorset House, Frazer Street, a tanner, married Darah Ann Chippett (JBPR).

HONEYFIELD Elizabeth
