1781 15 Feb. He became a free potter because of his married to Hester, daughter of Robert Evans I, gallypotmaker, deceased (F, G).

BRAIN Moses

The son of Moses Brain of Bitton, Gloucestershire, coal miner (A).

1779 22 or 29 Dec. He was apprenticed to Earl I and Elizabeth Pearce, £5.5s paid with the apprentice.  Friends to find apparel and washing (A, Ao).

BRAINE Uriah

1814 31 Jul.  Noted as a potter of Temple parish on the baptism of his son Thomas. Wife Mary (TPR).

1866 20 May.  Noted as a potter when his son Abram Braman married Elizabeth Cutton (JBPR).

 

BRAMER Thomas

Born c1822 in Swinton, Yorkshire (71C).

1871 Labourer general in pottery, 27 Grafton Street, St Philip’s parish (49), living with his wife Sarah (40), born in Mexborough, Yorkshire, and son Thomas (6), born in St Philip’s parish.  They were living at the same address as the Liversidge family of potters, also from Yorkshire (71C).

BRENT Edward

The son of John Brent of Bristol, weaver, deceased (A).

1743 15 Jul. He was apprenticed to James and Sarah Gaynard.  Friends to find apparel (A, Ao, Ar).
1746 7 Jun. His apprenticeship was transferred to Thomas II and Bathsheba Cantle (A).
1747 26 Jun. He became a free potter as he was the son of a freeman (F, G).
1753 He stood surety of £5 for Mary Parker to keep an alehouse in Temple parish (AKL).
1754 Potter, St Mary Redcliffe parish (P).
1754-55 He stood sureties of £5 each for John Biggs, Peter Patience, Edward Nicholls and Richard Wildgoose to keep alehouses in Temple parish (AKL).
1757 Possibly the Edward Brent for whom John Quarman stood surety of £5 to keep an alehouse in St Mary Redcliffe parish (AKL).
1784 6 May. Noted as a potter when his son, Edward, became a free pinmaker (G).

BRIAND Thomas

1776 26 Sep. Left his service, at the China Manufactory in Bristol, Thomas Briand, a China Repairer, an Indentured Servant.  He is about five feet six inches high, and fair complexion – whoever employs him will be prosecuted according to law; and if any Person will give Notice to the said Manufactory where he is to be found, shall receive a handsome reward. BRIDGE Lewis J.

1871 ‘Works at Bristol Pottery’, 4 Mitchell Lane, St Mary Redcliffe parish (13), the son of Eliza, a straw bonnet maker (71C).

BRIGHT Ann

See the Potteries section for the 131 Temple Street Pottery.

She succeeded Joseph Bright I at the Pottery and ran it with her sister, Jane Bright.

1848-52 Jane and Ann Bright ran the 131 Temple Street Pottery.

In 1853 Jane Bright alone is listed as running the Pottery.

The Pottery was then taken over by Charles Price II and Joseph Read Price.

1851 13 Dec. A potter of Temple parish (35) she married John Leworthy Yeo (40) a master mariner of Barnstaple (TPR).
1861 No occupation, living at 3 Harford Place, Bedminster with her husband John Yeo, a clerk in a broker’s office (61C).

BRIGHT George Charles (Thorne)

Born c1836 in Temple parish, the son of John Bright II and the father of John and Henry Bright (PPR, 61C, 91C).

1861 Stoneware potter, Apple Tree, Rose Street, Temple parish (23), living with his wife Harriet (20), born in Bristol (61C).
1863 26 Nov. West Street, St Philip’s parish (25), the son of John Bright, potter, he married Sarah Ann Marsh (22) of Old Market Street, the daughter of Stephen Marsh, a miner (PPR).
1864 Bread Street, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1866 25 Aug. ‘George Bright was charged on a warrant with assaulting his wife Ann with a poker. The parties live in Pipe Lane, parish of Temple, and it appeared that the accused had attacked his wife, who was in a delicate situation, a violent blow in the eye with a poker. The prisoner, who is a potter and works at Mr Price’s pottery, Temple Street, was sentenced to one month’s hard labour, and as he threatened his wife on leaving the court he was called back by the magistrates, who informed him that they should require him to find two sureties to keep the peace for a further period of a month ‘ (Bristol Mercury).

1897 18 Dec. Noted as a potter on the marriage of his son Henry William Stephen Bright (23) a labourer of John Street to Elizabeth Bignell (PPR).
1901 His wife was a widow (01C).
