1878 | 29 Oct. ‘At the Bristol General Hospital, on the body of James Withy, aged 75 years, a packer, living in Thomas Street, who died from injuries received through a fall downstairs at Messrs Price Brothers potteries, Temple, on Thursday. He was taken to the hospital, where he died on Sunday. William Kebby, living in Chatterton Square, a packer at Messrs Price Brothers potteries, said that on Thursday afternoon the deceased was helping to overturn a loaded crate, and had his back towards a cellar. Not knowing it was so near it, deceased slipped, and fell backwards down the stairs leading to the cellar. In falling he struck his head against a projecting stone. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with medical evidence’ (Bristol Mercury). |
