Born c1824 in St Philip’s parish, the husband of Maria Tanner I and the father of James Tanner II and Jane Tanner I (51C, 71C, PPR).

1842 & 45 Baptist Mills, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1851 Journeyman potter, 7 Millpond Street, St Philip’s parish (27), living with his wife Maria (30) born in Bristol and children (51C).
1861 Henry Row, Millpond Street, St Philip’s parish (40), living with his wife Maria (40), a potter’s assistant and children (61C).
1863 23 Nov. Noted as a potter when his son James II (21) a potter of Unity Street, St Philip’s parish married Eleanor Dunn (PPR).
1864 2 May. Noted as a potter when his daughter Jane (19) of Passage Street, St Philip’s parish married James Wiltshire (PPR).
1866 9 Dec. Noted as a potter when his daughter Emma (22) of Gladstone Street married William Henry Millman (HTPR).
1871 1 White’s Cottages, Pottery, Baptist Mills (47), living with his wife Maria (50), born in St Philip’s parish, and children (71C).
1881 1 White Cottage, Ashley Road, St Philip’s parish (57), living with his wife Maria (61) a potter and daughter Matilda (22) a laundress (81C).
1891 Potter, Yate Road, Yate, Gloucestershire (67), living with his wife Maria (70) (91C).
1901 Retired potter, 13 Banner Street, Battersea, London (77), living with his wife and their widowed daughter Matilda Woodcock (01C).
