Born c1814 in St Philip’s parish, the husband of Jane Thomas I and father of George Tanner II,  Thomas Tanner II, Maria Tanner II, Louisa Tanner and Henry Tanner (61C).

1861 1 Princes Place, St Philip’s parish (47), living with his wife Jane (40) born in Somerton, Somerset and children (61C).
1863 16 Nov. Noted as a potter when his son Thomas (20) of Avon Street, St Philip’s parish married Amelia Smith (PPR).
1871 Millwright, 3 Mill pond Street, St Philip’s parish (53), living with his wife Jane (54) and children (71C).
1881 Potter (foreman), The Pottery, 4 Millpond Street, St Philip’s parish (64), living with his wife Jane (64) a potter and son George (15), potter (thrower apprentice) (81C).
1882 1 Aug. ‘Died July 30, at Baptist Mills Pottery, George Tanner, aged 65, in the employ of J. and J. White 40 years. An honoured and faithful servant’ (Bristol Mercury).
