Born c1833 in Bristol (61C).

1861 4 Membury’s Court, Temple Street, Temple parish (28), living with his wife Hester (35) a tailoress, born in Bristol (61C).
1871 Labourer in pottery, 21 Tyler Street, St Philip’s parish (40), living with his wife Esther (50), born in Gloucestershire, and children Mary Ann (19) and Sarah Jane (19), both born in Bristol (71C).
1873 24 Jan. Possibly the John Smith who ‘was charged with stealing a quantity of oats, valued 6d, the property of Mr John Ellis, of the Crown Pottery, St George’s. The prisoner had been in a position of trust for some years, during which time a great many things had been lost, but the present charge was the first proved against him. He was sentenced to two months’ hard labour’ (Western Daily Press).
