Born in 1853 in Temple parish, the son of John I and Elizabeth Mountford and the father of John Mountford V (PPR, 61C, 91C, 01C)).

1875 10 May. Jacob Street, St Philip’s parish (22) the son of John Mountford, a potter, he married Eliza Newton (21) of Old Market Street, St Philip’s parish, the daughter of William Newton, a hawker (PPR).

1928 18 Feb. ‘The funeral took place at Greenbank Cemetery yesterday of Mr John Mountford, aged 74, of 35 Winsley Street, Stapleton Road. For 60 years deceased was employed at Messrs Pountney and Co’s potteries at their Fishponds works where he was greatly respected’. Representing Pountneys at the funeral were Thomas Stockham, H. Greenland and Mr G. Tyler (Western Daily Press).
