BRYAN John Charles

Born 1822 in Bristol, the son of Uriah Bryan, the brother of Thomas Bryan and the father of George John Bryan (61C, TPR, A).

1821 11 Jun. He was born, the son of Uriah and Mary Bryan of Temple parish, bapt 19 Aug. 1821 (TPR).
1837 9 Jan. The son of Uriah Bryan, potter, deceased, he was apprenticed to J.D. Pountney (A, Ao).
1841 Potter’s apprentice, Pipe Lane, Temple parish (20), he was living with his brother Thomas, a potter, and his family (41C).
1841 22 Dec. Horsefair (21), the son of Uriah Bryan, grocer, he married Susan Vigors, daughter of Silvanus Vigors, clerk (JaPR). (Note: Uriah Bryan, potter, John’s father, had died by 1837 so this reference to Uriah Bryan, grocer is odd).
1842 30 Oct. Temple parish (TPR).
1848 24 Dec. Stapleton (TPR).
1853 31 Jul. St Philip’s parish (TPR).
1859 5 Sep. Noted as a potter when his son Uriah William was apprenticed to Thomas Barnes, timber merchant (Ao).
1859 23 Oct. A widower of Baptist Mills he married Mary Elizabeth Jenkins of Armory Square, the daughter of William Thomas Jenkins, excise officer (HTPR).
1860 21 Oct. Baptist Mills, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1861 Foreman at pottery. Millpond Street, St Philip’s parish (39) he was living with his wife Mary Elizabeth (30) born in Manchester, and his children (61C).
1862 Baptist Mills, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1871 Manager of pottery, East Street, Bedminster (49), living with his wife and children (71C).
1881 His wife was a widow (81C).
