The son of John Brown of Abbots Leigh, Somerset, yeoman and the brother of John Brown (A).

1731 4 May. He was apprenticed to William and Ann Pottery, £8 paid with the apprentice.  Friends to find apparel (A, Ao, Ar).
1739 29 Mar. A potter of St Augustine’s parish, he was granted a licence to marry Rebecca Fudge of the same parish at St Augustine’s or the Cathedral (M).
1739 15 Oct. He became a free potmaker (F, G).
