Born c1853 in Bristol, possibly the son of John Stephens II, the brother of John Henry and Jane Stephens, and possibly the father of George Michael Stephens (71C, 81C, 91C).

1871 Potter (apprentice), 7 Prospect Place, St Philip’s parish (19), living with his parents and siblings (71C).
1877 2 Dec.  Packhorse Lane, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1880 4 Jul. Baptist Mills, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
1881 19 Amberley Street, St Philip’s parish (28), living with his wife Lavinia (28) a dressmaker, born in St George and children (81C).
1882 9 Jul. Baptist Mills, St Philip’s parish (PPR).
c1887 He was living in Hanley, Staffordshire on the birth of his children Annie and Arthur (91C).
1891 Potter’s thrower, 22 Saffron Street, St George (38), living with his wife Lavinia (37) and children (91C).
1901 His wife was a widow (01C).
