1787 | 17 Nov. ‘Whereas I John Howell, Pot-Maker, of the Parish of St Philip, did last night most grossly insult, abuse, and obstruct John Baxter, one of the Officers belonging to St Peter’s Hospital, who was doing his Duty in apprehending and bringing to Justice certain Vagrants and Ballard Singers … I have rendered myself liable to be severely punished … but in consideration of it’s being my first Offence, and on my begging Pardon of the Officer … the Corporation of St Pater’s Hospital are pleased to stop all Proceedings against me’. The apology was witnessed by Samuel Crinks, potmaker (BMBJ). |
