1866 | 25 Aug. ‘George Bright was charged on a warrant with assaulting his wife Ann with a poker. The parties live in Pipe Lane, parish of Temple, and it appeared that the accused had attacked his wife, who was in a delicate situation, a violent blow in the eye with a poker. The prisoner, who is a potter and works at Mr Price’s pottery, Temple Street, was sentenced to one month’s hard labour, and as he threatened his wife on leaving the court he was called back by the magistrates, who informed him that they should require him to find two sureties to keep the peace for a further period of a month ‘ (Bristol Mercury). |
